NOTE: The TOP scan is a generic scan, just to show you what the card looks like. The BOTTOM scan, at 3x actual size, shows the correct City Surcharge. In 1920 the USPS lowered the First Class rate fom 2c to 1c…which was the rate before WWI, when a temporary 1c increase was needed. This was done by « surcharging » 2c Postal & Reply Cards (UX29, UX30 and UY8) to 1c (creating UX32, UX33 and UY9), using a cancelling machine and Dies supplied by the USPOD. This was done in 46 cities. AS YOU SHOULD EXPECT…. some of these surcharges are common and command no premium….. some are difficult and command a slight premium…. and some are scarce and command a large premium.
